So, you want to launch your own business? Great idea!

There are several things that you need to consider before you start your business. One of them is a logo. Unless you have a logo that matches your brand perfectly, you might not be able to take your brand as high as you want. There is a direct relationship between a logo and people’s perception of you.

Ask anyone and they will tell you that your company logo is by far, one of the most important things that you need to take care of. You will display your logo on your website, on all your social media channels, and all your communications. This will include emails, brochures, flyers, banners, as well as packaging, receipts, envelopes, visiting cards, and more. Your logo will enhance your brand awareness and make your brand memorable in the customers’ eyes. Once they see your logo, they will immediately associate it with your brand no matter where they see.

With so much riding on your logo, isn’t it crucial to get the perfect one? Of course, it is. But how will you know what the perfect logo looks like? How will you know that it will work with your brand?

Here are some things that will help you.

You may be designing your own logo if you have expertise in this area. You might also have your own in-house team for this purpose. Or, you can go to Google and search for a string like ‘logo designer near me’ or ‘best logo designer in (area)’. In any case, ask yourself the following questions to find out whether your logo has the same attributes as your brand.

1. What does your company represent?

The first thing that you have to know is what are you offering to your customers. Are you in the clothing business, food business, or more? Do you offer SEO services or other digital marketing services? Are you a logistics firm? Do you provide shipping services to local or international businesses?

Depending on your business, come up with a single visual that can explain what you do to your customers. For example, think about Amazon. They sell everything under the sun. Their logo represents their business with the arrow going from ‘A’ to the ‘Z’ telling people exactly what they do. Another example is the FedEx logo. The arrow that points in one direction represents the concept of their business. The same is true for coffee shops. Most of them have some form of a cup with steam coming out of it.

Come up with a symbol or an image that could potentially represent your business just like this.

2. Which Logos Resonate with You?

If you can come up with something for your logo, that’s great. But what should you do if you can’t come up with anything? What is the next logical step?

The next step is to check out the logos of your competitors and other businesses that are in the same industry. You can even look at logos that belong to businesses in other industries just for inspiration. There are no rules. If you like a logo, write down why you like it and what about it inspired you the most. If you see a font or a symbol that you like, take a picture or draw it in your journal so you can change it according to your needs and wants.

3. Who are Your Competitors?

The logo is the one thing that can help people differentiate between your brand and your competitors. For this purpose, logos have to be unique. You can’t just take a logo from the market and edit it out a little bit to make one for your own. Find out what your competitors are doing so you can do something different and custom. If every coffee shop is using a cup and steam to represent their business, it is time for you to choose something else.

4. What Colours Do You Want to Work With?

Is it that important to choose the colours of the logo?

Yes, it is.

Most of us choose colours based on our favourites. If you like purple, you will ask for a logo that is in purple. If you like pink, you will go for pink. Just remember that there is a lot more to colours than you think. Colour psychology is an actual thing and it tells of the effects that each colour has on humans. Depending on your target audience, you will need to select a colour that evokes the required emotions in them.

5. Which Font Should You Choose?

Here we will repeat the same thing about fonts that we said earlier about colours. People have different reactions to different types of fonts. Just search for different images and see what fonts are used for the various types of images. You will see specific fonts being used for memes. For this purpose, check out the fonts that other businesses in your industry and outside are using. You can look at Newspapers, eCommerce firms, Law firms, Children’s toys and clothing brands, and more for inspiration.
