SLAT Exam, also known as the Symbiosis Law Aptitude Test, is a standardised test. It is administered to candidates aspiring for admission to the Symbiosis Law School. It is conducted by Symbiosis International University (SIU). This test evaluates a candidate’s intuitiveness, reasoning, vocabulary, and effective use of English language skills.
The preparation for the exam might include taking up a course to improve one’s understanding of legal topics and garner knowledge on various areas of law like Constitutional Law, Criminal Law, Business Laws, etc. that cover the SLAT syllabus. You can visit BYJU’S Exam Prep to know more about it.
Selection procedure for SLAT exam
The university shall conduct the SLAT Exam within two months from the declaration of the candidates’ results in each academic year. Upon clearing the SLAT Exam, candidates are eligible for admission to any Law course offered by Symbiosis International University (SIU). The selection process for LSAT Exam is almost similar to each other.
- The written test results shall be put to a process of evaluation and analysis to arrive at a final list of candidates, based on their performance in the SLAT exam, followed by an interview conducted by Symbiosis International (Deemed University).
- According to the Symbiosis Law School, candidates appearing for the exam from other law universities will be debarred from appearing for it. However, this information can be found incorrect as there is no such provision in Symbiosis Law School rules (i.e., no such rule that debars students from appearing in the Inter-State test).
- But this information was being circulated by some websites, which was later found inaccurate. Symbiosis Law School conducts an entrance test followed by a writing ability test (WAT) for admission to the Law course before examining a candidate’s ability to read and understand a passage from a given subject. Moving further after the announcement of the result of WAT, the candidates are invited for a personal interaction (PI) round.
- A basic shortlist of candidates is made for admission to Symbiosis Law School. After the PI round, Symbiosis Law School releases the Final admission lists.
The SIU is the authority that conducts the SLAT exam and decides the eligibility criteria and the selection process that students need to follow for admission to law courses. Moreover, Symbiosis Law School has its own set of rules and regulations that students need to follow for admission to its course. For example, while we have explained above that there is no age bar limit set by the university, as per Symbiosis Law School rules, foreign candidates are eligible only if they have completed their graduation or equivalent degree before a specific date. Also, it would help if you had a valid GMAT score while applying for Symbiosis Law School.
SLAT merit list:
The Symbiosis Law School publishes the merit list of candidates eligible for admission into various law courses. In addition, the Symbiosis Law School shall be responsible for determining its policies, rules, and regulations for SLAT Exam, which refers to the entire SLAT Exam process – eligibility, selection/ shortlisting, and admission are subject to change as per the decision of the university.
In this academic year, Symbiosis Law School has introduced an aptitude assessment tool for the selection of candidates for admission to its law course in addition to the existing procedure of an objective type written test followed by a personal interaction round. This selection procedure gives equal weightage to the scores obtained by a candidate in the written test and the aptitude assessment test. The extent of weightage is yet to be determined. Under no circumstance will any additional question paper or papers containing particular questions be issued beyond what has been prescribed by SIU Deemed University, Pune. Aspiring candidates can easily take the help of BYJU’s Exam Prep to abreast themselves with the exam pattern and practise previous years’ papers and mock tests.
